Immunohistochemistry

EPL offers high quality immunohistochemical (IHC) staining service using standard protocols developed in-house or provided by the client.

As many studies submitted to EPL do not have a protocol available for the antigen, species or tissue in which a protein is to be studied, we offer support in developing new protocols or optimizing existing protocols. This may involve serial dilution of the antibody, variations in antigen retrieval and attempts at troubleshooting. Costs for protocol development are based on time and materials devoted by EPL to the project. The optimized protocol can then be used for subsequent staining of study samples. We do not currently accept human or central nervous system tissues.

We use a DAKO® autostainer for IHC staining of paraffin-embedded and frozen tissue sections from a variety of species. This system allows us to automate manual staining methods and has the capability to process up to 48 slides at one time allowing for consistent and dependable results. The system is highly versatile with the ability to vary multiple parameters within a single run.

Digital imaging, image analysis and semi-quantitative evaluation of IHC stained slides are available upon request. We are currently developing protocols for producing and evaluating immunofluorescent-stained sections.

Standard protocols have been developed for a number of antibodies and are listed below. We will keep you updated as new protocols are developed.
