EPL is looking for a Staff Scientist with expertise in molecular pathology and cell biology. As a Staff Scientist, you will join a work environment that encourages teamwork, quality, and offers opportunities for professional growth. The incumbent for this position will provide on-site research support to the Molecular Pathology Laboratory, Comparative and Molecular Pathogenesis Branch, Division of Translational Toxicology at the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (DTT/NIEHS). This position supports research efforts to understand translational relevance and mechanisms of chemical carcinogenesis using rodent models as well as in vitro systems such as organoids and cell cultures. There will be numerous opportunities to pursue independent and collaborative multidisciplinary research utilizing pathology, multi-omics approaches and molecular biology tools.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide cell culture expertise especially related to 3D organoids and air-liquid interface cultures
  • Contribute to project planning, experimental design, data generation, interpretation, and reporting of study data
  • Prepare manuscripts and present at national and international conferences
  • Mentor visiting scientists and trainees including summer students, postbaccalaureate and postdoctoral fellows

Requirements:

  • MS or PhD degree in biology or related disciplines with expertise in cell culture and a strong background in molecular biology and cancer biology
  • BS in biology or related disciplines with extensive experience in cell culture and organoids will also be considered
  • 3-5 years of cell culture experience
  • Strong interpersonal skills with ability to work independently and as a member of a research team

Position Summary:

EPL is looking for a Quality Assurance Technician II in our Sterling, VA office. As a QA Technician you will review and verify work instructions and pathology software database information prior to the start of histopathology functions and review various preliminary and/or completed records, draft, and final reports.  In addition, review of pathology peer review processes, in-process audits and facility inspections are conducted to assure required procedures are being followed.  These functions are performed within the framework established by US and international Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) regulations and facility SOPs.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Review work instructions and pathology software setups as directed by the QAU Supervisor 
  • Review Master and Completed Necropsy Records
  • Review Raw Data generated by EPL including completed Histology Records
  • Conduct In-Process inspections, as required
  • Understand the application of all applicable SOPs and recordkeeping requirements associated with functions
  • Continue to learn workflows associated with working towards histology and pathology reporting
  • File and retrieve information

Position Requirements:

  • High School Diploma plus 5-7 years of relevant experience
  • Ability to pay close attention to details
  • Understand and follow written and verbal instructions
  • Communicate effectively verbally and in writing
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and to make Quality Assurance decisions based on GLP/SOP requirements and study criteria
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Excel & Word mainly)
  • Ability to adapt to changing procedures, priorities, and tasks
  • Show an aptitude for learning scientific, histologic, and medical terminology
