President, EPL, Inc., Senior Pathologist

Kathleen A. Funk received her D.V.M. degree from the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine, residency pathology training and a Ph.D. in Comparative Pathology from the University of California at Davis.  She is certified by the American College of Veterinary Pathologists in anatomical pathology.  Currently, Kathleen serves as President and Senior Pathologist for Experimental Pathology Laboratories. Inc. (EPL).  Before joining EPL, she spent 10 years at Consolidated Veterinary Diagnostics/IDEXX VS as a Veterinary Pathologist, Senior Anatomic Pathologist and Head of Contract Research Services.  She has over 25 years of experience in toxicologic pathology. She has worked on a wide variety of toxicologic studies, including phenotypic analysis of transgenic animals and neurotoxicity studies. Areas of expertise include the evaluation of tissue reaction to biomedical devices, especially cardiovascular devices such as stents and grafts, in a variety of species and currently gene therapy studies in nervous tissue is a focus.
